During the academic year 2016-2017 Prof. Reinhard Steennot will hold the special Chair in Private Law of the Dutch-Belgian Tijdschrift voor Privaatrecht.
After having obtained a law degree from the Ghent University in 1998, Prof. Reinhard Steennot joined the Financial Law Institute as a full time researcher, sponsored by the Fund for Scientific Research. Starting his career, he wrote a doctoral thesis on the legal problems arising from consumer protection in electronic payment systems. Since October 2003 he has taken up a teaching assignment with courses on consumer, economic and banking law. Nowadays, his research focuses on banking law, consumer protection and market practices.
Reinhard Steennot is also a member of the Belgian Commission on Unfair Contract Terms and member of the Supervisory Board of the Belgian Financial Services Market Authority. During the term 2016-2017 he will be visiting professor at the UvA holding the 'Wisselleerstoel voor Privaatrecht' of the Dutch-Belgian Tijdschrift voor Privaatrecht, conducting research into the protection which the Court of Justice offers to the consumer.
