Ethical approach to privacy regulation
Bart van der Sloot asks investigates a rights-based approach to privacy regulation still suffices to address the challenges triggered by new data processing techniques such as Big Data and mass surveillance. he asks whether a broader conception of privacy regulation can be introduced, aimed not just at protecting the subjective rights of private individuals, but also the interests at stake that cannot be directly linked to a specific individual. He develops such an approach by turning to virtue ethics.
