‘Judges in Utopia: Judicial law-making in European private law’, the five year NWO Vidi-supported research project, has a new website including a blog and details of all related publications and events.

‘Judges in Utopia’ aims to inform legal practitioners, policymakers, academics and law students of developments in European private law adjudication.

A particular focus lies on the role of civil courts in the EU’s multi-layered legal order as well as the influence of fundamental rights and public policy on judicial decision-making. Specific case studies include climate change litigation, the right to effective judicial protection in the context of EU consumer law, and the role of remedies in reconciling different conceptions of social justice at European and national level.
